Stamp Duty Holiday Failed

Attempting to save the housing market by raising the stamp duty threshold to £175,000 failed to revive the housing market, experts have claimed.

This meant that more than half of buyers avoided the tax in September, compared to only 22% of buyers 12 months previously, house prices have continued to fall, whilst only 34,900 people secured a loan in September, which represents a decline of almost 60%, according to the Council of Mortgage Lenders.
